A credit bureau is a data gathering organization that compiles individual credit information and sells it to creditors for a fee. They assign credit scores to individuals based on their credit history. Creditors use this information to assess the creditworthiness of a lender which is then used to determine the interest rate and other loan conditions. In the United States,the top three credit bureaus in the U.S. are Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion, although there are several others as well.
