margin of safety

The margin of safety is the difference between the amount of expected profitability and the break-even point. As an investment principle, margin of safety is the difference between the intrinsic value of a security and its market price. When the market price of a security is significantly below its intrinsic value, the difference is its margin of safety. Value investors like Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett usually use margin of safety to inform their investment choices.
